RE: BIG CHANGES ARE COMING SOON (Nov 15 2023)

My Profile shows my current email address not the one I signed up with 17 years ago. I don't know how it was updated to current but it doesn't matter if I can't login. For me, the email space was blank and it asked me what email to send it to. Admin, While it doesn't effect me, not allowing users with a space in their name is an absolute FAIL! I honestly don't see myself using the new forum much. It reminds me of when they would hire some pubescent new whiz kid MBA at work and he had so little experience that they'd be more than useless, they'd just drag the company down. Seems like they had someone design the new forum who has no experience with bulletin boards at all. Looks like we all lost our "Senior" status too. After nearly 20 years, I'm an "explorer" - what ever that is.

RE: Support the slides?

Absolutely not. Every manufacturer warns against using those things and they aren't needed.

RE: BIG CHANGES ARE COMING SOON (Nov 15 2023)

Is there an "Active" or "Newest" post tab? So far I see nothing that I would consider an improvement. It going to be much harder and more time consuming to use IMO.

Thanks for the update!

RE: water pump being funny

I would check the wire connectors where they attach to the switch on the pump.

RE: Onan Generator Oil Filter Crossthreaded

I started to cross thread an oil filter one time - or rather, I tried to put the fuel filter in place of the oil filter on my Cummins. Let me tell you, it takes some real effort to even get it started - which is what kept me from continuing on and damaging it. I think THEY cross threaded it. If you can get it off, I suspect you can get the new filter on properly.

RE: SIX Campgrounds We Stayed At On The Way Home

Any issue with train noise at Maryhill?

RE: Ford 7.3 engine users?

Thanks for that Will. If I had to replace my present diesel truck, I'd go gas because all the diesels are too complicated and unreliable IMO. Further, after owning a Dodge car for 8 years with a (low mileage) 6.4L eng, I'd never own another Hemi. So my next truck (if I have to buy) would be a Ford 7.3L. But someone's gonna have to pry my hands off the steering wheel of my trusty Cummins first!

RE: Ok to run shore power without battery?

Ok. I checked the converter output this morning and it’s 13.2 VDC So it’s in float mode. Perfect.

RE: Awning issue

Be careful of how you mount it. There's blocking installed to support an awning from the factory. Sometimes there's a sticker to indicate where this is. You can't just run screws into luan paneling alone.

RE: 2005 Safari Simba Hot Water heater 120 volt Electric

Got it fixed. It was a bad water heater element and bad 12 volt relay. Want to say more but this site says improper formatting, whatever that means. It means this site will never, ever fix that problem ;) Glad you got it fixed!

RE: Ford 7.3 engine users?

The addition of the Exhaust Brake was a major factor for me upgrading from my 2005 Duramax to a 2011 Duramax. In approx 30K miles the 2005 need new brake pads, while the 2011 was still on the EOM pads when traded with 115K on the clock. Sounds like operator error to me if your replacing brakes every 30k miles. My truck is only used for towing and I'm in the mountains a lot. I can see that kind of mileage if I didn't have an EB. I'll go with the driver or equal error. My 05 DW dmax went 140K miles before needing new pads all around. I was running around upwards of 16K gvw, and 25K gcw at times, mostly doing local stuff. Marty So you spend most your time going over Stevens and Snoqualmie with a heavy load, no EB and got 140K out of your brakes?

RE: Ok to run shore power without battery?

Thanks for all the information. The battery is a 12 volt lead acid RV deep cycle battery from Les Schwab. No reason to think it’s not what it says it is. As far as I know the only 12v functions in the trailer are lights, bathroom exhaust fan, radio and propane alarm. All those are fine on what’s coming out of the converter now: 12.9v No slide out, no hitch jack. Checking the panel it also has a few other 12v circuits that we don’t use ( dont need the water pump since we’re hooked up permanently, and the furnace, since we use electric heat instead of propane.) And it says the hood fan is 12v which I didn’t know. So everything we need is working fine off the converter and shore power. I don’t know why the converter was overcharging the battery to the point of boiling, but if it can go without a battery I really don’t need to care about it. I suspect that I killed the battery by leaving it outside uncharged over a couple of winters and that’s my bad. But, again, if I don’t need a battery in the system I’m ok. Still getting mixed opinions on that. With that information, you don't need a battery. Your WFCO converter will take care of everything you describe.

RE: Ok to run shore power without battery?

If your RV is sitting on a seasonal lot and never moves, you're fine without a battery. Having one will not change or improve anything. If you're towing or have slides that have to be moved in and out, you may need the battery for extra capacity but you don't need it to make the converter create clean power - at least not a converter from 2007.

RE: Ok to run shore power without battery?

My guess is your battery is internally shorted. I would put a new battery in the coach. The battery acts as a "shock absorber" for the converter, stabilizing the output & giving the converter a stable voltage reference. They haven't been built like that since the old Magtek 63XX days, prior to somewhere around 2000. Anything (even a WFCO) will have no problem making clean DC without a battery.

FWIW, The Mega's rear seats do recline.

RE: Ok to run shore power without battery?

Disconnect the battery and see if it's still 12.9. I'm thinking possibly your battery is shorted internally and without it, your voltage will rise to normal levels. I too, suggest you don't get your advice from a NAPA counter guy and yes, it's fine to run your particular rig on shore power without a battery.

RE: Vinyl Carefree awning stains

Tilex Mold and Mildew Remover by Clorox. Absolutely amazing stuff and will take out any stain on a vinyl awning without damage. I've used it for decades on all my awnings. I dilute it by pouring half a bottle into a 1 gallon sprayer and soaking down both sides. Then roll up the awning for 1~2 hours. After that just rinse it off.
